Lesley Miller

Biography

I trained as a painter at Wolverhampton College of Art and as a teacher at Birmingham University, and taught art in High Schools for many years.

I have exhibited my work in group and ‘open’ exhibitions in Stafford, Stoke, Chester, Birmingham RSA, Stockport, Derby, Buxton, Newcastle and Keele.

I have had a one – person exhibition in Newcastle’s Victoria Theatre, and won a Millennium commission from Newcastle–under-Lyme Council.

I have work in private collections in Canada, Turkey, Thailand and the UK.

Many other artists and foreign travel have informed my work, and although landscape and flowers have become a major interest in my work, I often include artefacts from other cultures within the compositions.

My landscape works are a response to rhythms found in the natural world of skies, trees, grasses etc.

In my still-life paintings and drawings, I combine expressive and patterning techniques alongside careful observational studies.

I employ varying degrees of emphasis to the detail using dramatic colouring and tonal depth to create atmosphere.

I also enjoy regular portrait and life drawing sessions.
